Short answer: Athlytic is a recovery app. It tells you how ready you are and how hard you pushed. Zone2AI is a Zone 2 app. It builds your range from your own heart data and tells you, after every workout, whether the session was real Zone 2. If your goal is Zone 2 training, or you wear a Garmin or use Android, Zone2AI is the closer fit. If you want a daily recovery score on Apple Watch, Athlytic is excellent and you may not need an alternative at all.

If you want one number in the morning that says how recovered you are, Athlytic does that well on Apple Watch, and it is a fair price for it. It covers sleep, heart rate variability trends and daily load in one place. Zone2AI does not try to be a 24/7 recovery tracker.
You are training Zone 2 on purpose. Most people who follow Zone 2 guidance want to know one thing after a 45 minute ride or incline walk: did that count? A zone chart shows how many minutes landed in Zone 2 but not whether they were one continuous block, and the research on Zone 2 is about continuous time. Zone2AI counts the continuous minutes inside your range, leaves out the warm-up, and gives a plain answer against your weekly goal.
Your range should fit you, not your birthday. Most watch zones start from a maximum heart rate estimated from age. Zone2AI uses the highest heart rate seen in your own workouts and your resting heart rate, then adjusts by about 1 percent per session from how hard it felt, within a 5 percent cap.
You wear a Garmin or use Android. More than half of Zone2AI users wear a Garmin. Zone2AI has a Connect IQ watch app that shows your personal range on the wrist, and since October 2026 an Android app on Google Play that reads Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, Fitbit and Garmin data through Health Connect.
Zone 2 is the job? Zone2AI gives you a range from your own heart data and a verdict after every session. Free to download.
